I spent some time at Sedgwick last year and jumped at the chance to tour it again. Lichens are a complex, interesting organism. "A lichen is a composite organism that arises from algae or cyanobacteria (or both) living among filaments of a fungus in a symbiotic relationship." We looked for them on rocks, fence posts and old wood or tree barks. colors ranched from green, brown to bright orange. I was actually more interested in photographing the beautiful Preserve than classifying lichens. It had greened up due to the recent rains, since the last time I was there in summer months.
BTW I will be putting my name at all future blog posts since I discovered google posts all blogs in a google photo area. (sorry about the name distraction..I like to keep rights to all my photos in case I "do something with them" in the future)
My favorite spot, views from Anderson point. It looks surreal, kind of "airbrushed", from the cliff vantage point every time I've seen it:

Hunting Lichens on the mountainside:
Santa Ynez is cattle and horse country, 35 miles inland from Santa Barbara, which is on the coast. Many of the ranches have this type of gate at the entrance, making a statement.
The Gate, heading out of Sedgwick:
Mountain views breathtaking panorama. Photos don't do it justice.
